on call is an excuse for:
hi doctor, I have a new patient who is making alot of noise, can you sedate him?
hi doctor, new admission in ward x can you come and see the patient?
hi doctor, patient x is prepped for operation.
hi doctor, patient is bleeding (oh not good.)

all this at 3 in the morning.
plus emergencies.
plus catheters and sharp needles.
and cpr, the defib and a death cert.
watching life slip away as adrenaline surges;
chaos rules the backyard.
