People say slimeing others is a bastardly thing to do. Bet they never tried it, though.
Honestly, is it not human nature to seek to place oneself on a pedestal above others? And what better way to do that than by trodding on others. I think it would be impossible not to feel a sense of vindicative pleasure at seeing a competitor falter in the rat race that is life.
Then we come to the occasional person that defies this trend. Instinct would tell us to take advantage of him. Yet this seldom happens; the person is usually elevated on another pedestal instead. People remember those who claw their way to the top, but people also remember those that gladly step aside to offer others a leg up.
Perhaps some things in life are unexplainable with logic.
And perhaps bio sounds the call.
